ABOUT
Orkideh Torabi was born in Tehran, Iran. She earned her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2016, following her MA and BFA from the University of Art in Tehran. Torabi has held solo exhibitions at prestigious venues such as Nino Mier Gallery in Brussels, Half Gallery in New York, Richard Heller Gallery in Los Angeles, and Western Exhibitions in Chicago. Her work has also been featured in numerous museum and group exhibitions, including the Atrium Project at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago (MCA), the Chicago Cultural Center, Nino Mier Gallery in Los Angeles, Fredericks & Freiser in New York, Andrew Rafacz Gallery in Chicago, and Galeriedroste Droste in Germany among others.
Her work has garnered critical attention in publications such as the Los Angeles Times, Juxtapoz, Hyperallergic, and the Chicago Reader. In 2019, she was a top nominee for Galerie Magazine’s “Emerging Artist Award.” Her pieces are part of notable collections, including the Smart Museum of Art in Chicago, the Hall Art Foundation in Vermont, the CC Foundation in Shanghai, the Progressive Art Collection, and the Microsoft Art Collection in Redmond, WA.
Torabi currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
